CLINICAL STUDY FOR AESTHETIC AND RECONSTRUCTIVE LIP SURGERY



Abstract
This is a retrospective study of patients who had undergone aesthetic and reconstructive lip surgery by a variety of methods.
A total of 79 patients were reviewed from Apr. 1, 1987 to Feb. 28, 1993 with a mean followup period of 15 months. There were 43 males and 36 females.
The ages range from 9 to 74 years(mean 27.1years).
The operative methods were elliptical excision and revision, z-plasty, local flap procedures, mucosal and bone graft.
During the operation, we laid emphasis on normai lip color, texture, shape, thickness, elasticity, voluntary motor control and sensibility.
Complications of lip surgery includes : 1) partial flap necrosis 2) wound disruption 3) infection 4) asymmetrical lip.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the current trends in aesthetic and reconstructive lip surgery.
We arrived at the following results : 1) proper reconstruction 2) more cosmetic effect 3)relatively simple procedure 4) least complication 5) restoration of facial expression.
